35 years… This is how long I’ve been here down this world and I can tell you that’s not enough to see it all! To start with, I would like to give you a quick sum up of my youth: I was born on the 24th of August 1984 at 11:00 am and I grew up on the eastern suburb of Paris, France. I’ve typed “C:> dir” and press enter on MS-DOS , had a walkman and used a pen to rewind my tapes, went down the street with my quad-roller, knew where my friends were by spotting piles of bicycles left out in the street, rang my mum’s friend on a landline asking politely if they would pass me their suns on the phone. Went to my friend’s place and play on Amstrad or Sega Megadrive, I saw the first mobile phone, the arrival of colored screens and polyphonic ringtones and had the first playstation. For 8 years I’ve been practicing BMX and to buy my first bike I worked as an advertising distributor, going for letterbox to letterbox spamming people with advertising… You gotta do what you got to do! Later on, I Left my electrician Bachelor behind and I got myself engaged in a photographic school for a 2 years course in hope to study the techniques and the art of photography. I got enrolled right during the transition time between the film and digital technology, my first camera was a Canon A1 then I got myself a Nikon FM2 before switching to a Nikon D70. Parralely, I joined a photo club in which I had access to a home made laboratory in which I spent nights smoking pot while developing films. This part of my life certainly was one of the best times of my youth, we were 8 in the class and some of our lessons happened in separated groups which let 4 of us with one teacher. It took me a year and a half before I got kicked out for being a disturbing element. I was a bit disappointed about the course because we had planings featuring 4h hours of photography lessons versus 8h of economics and frankly if I wanted to learn about economics I would have joined a photographic school would I? From there I worked many jobs from being a seller to a photographer to being in sales again because I wasn’t making money with photography. Well I could make money by doing things I did not want to do, I wanted photography to stay a passion rather than a money making industry and find myself capturing weddings. So I got myself good jobs in sales and saved as much money as I could, I stocked euros on a bank account trying not to spend them. In 2008, I traveled to Iceland with a good friend of mine, this was a mind opener for me and led me to book a one way flight ticket to Australia on the 14th February 2010. 6 years later, I was back from an incredible journey with my head full of memories and my hard drives full of photos and of course a perfectly broken french speaking! So 35 years is pretty much half of my lifetime on this planet. The time has come for me to settle down, I got engaged, I grew a beer belly (small but still) and we adopted a cute dog we named Luna who became my best friend even though she ate the couch and some of our pants: Lot of things happened in these 35 years and yet I haven’t found (or took) the time to sit and write about my stories, neither did I share the photos with you! Traveling taught me many lessons, including the fact that the only things we really own are our memories.
So… Today is the day! Welcome on “Eyelighted”, a place I created to share my photos, advices/ tips and stories. For now this only is a blog on which I’ll post an article at least every two months (maybe every month if my life does not get too busy), I’ll tell you about my travels, share photographs and some of my urban and outdoor adventures. Over time, this blog will evolve into a website on which I’ll showcase photographic galleries and visual art. I really hope you are excited as well as I’m, I’m bouncing around the place like a kid at Christmas. Up next, I'll tell you about my favourite photo-apps on mobile phone and how I use them to easily create stunning photos See ya then ;)
